Blackboard Scholar
What is Scholar?
Scholar is a social bookmarking service that
allows members of the Blackboard community to:
-
save and classify bookmarks and searches
-
share resources with faculty, students and
administrators from other institutions
-
automatically update courses with dynamic content
feeds
-
enable student contributions to course collections
Using the knowledge and power of Blackboard’s
network of educational users, Scholar will make it easier for
instructors and students to find relevant resources on the Internet
for courses and research. By storing and sharing associated
information with each resource such as tags, disciplines, other
users who have tagged and more, Scholar will allow users to evaluate
the resources and find the most relevant and reliable.
How do I get started?
Scholar is available from within the Tools area of
any course and organization as well as the Scholar tab above. The
first time you use Scholar, you will be directed to the Scholar
Account Creation form.
Your name and email address will be pre-populated
in the form but you can make any necessary changes. You will need to
select a Desired Scholar Login name and a Desired Scholar Password.
Scholar Login names are for life, so they should be selected
carefully. The user can not change their Scholar Login name after
creation.
We strongly recommend that you DO NOT USE YOUR
NETID PASSWORD FOR YOUR SCHOLAR PASSWORD.
Individuals can retrieve their Scholar Passwords
providing they enter a valid email address and provide a Password
Hint. Passwords and Password Hints can be changed by the user after
creation. After account creation, everytime an individual clicks on
a link or tab to Scholar, inside the learning management system,
they will be seamlessly authenticated through to Scholar.
